In an age when E31s are changing hands for around $10K , would you be willing to spend nearly SIX TIMES that much on a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ?

The ad claims that while the car itself has traveled just over 140K miles, the engine was completely rebuilt 27K miles ago. The heater & A/C cores, catalytic converters, coils, caps & rotors, alternator, belts, air & fuel filters, O2 sensors, water pump, alternator, batteries, rear bushings & front control arms have also all been recently replaced, apparently, which would make most of this 21-year-old car essentially new.

The interior is the cleanest, prettiest, and most modern I’ve ever seen in an 8-Series. Even the leather looks soft and brand-new.

All that being said, it’s almost certainly the most expensive 8-Series out there right now. Is the sky-high price worth it, or does it have you passing the crack pipe?

I mean, CSi models have always traded for about 3-5x normal asking price for the Ci and i brethren, condition varying those figures obviously. I remember one in the Raleigh area a couple years ago that sold for $35,000 that wasn’t just refreshed like this one.

There’s a lot of confusion about which V12 models were offered as factory manuals in the US market, but the CSi pretty much has the guarantee that the drivetrain is authentic and not some shade-tree “manual v12 for cheap” hack job. Plus other performance “M8" perfomancy stuff.

I would feel ok at $50,000 considering it has 140k on the body. I’d pay $60,000 for half that mileage.

I would pay the asking price under 2 conditions:

1) aftermarket bumper-to-bumper warranty of preferably 1-2 years, and

2) I win the lotto.

/things will not be coming up Milhouse

Cool. So they did regular maintenance and replaced worn out items on a 140K mile car, but now want a ridiculous sum of money for it because they did work that should have been done before. I fail to see how people doing what they are supposed to do always necessitates an increase in asking price.

Not saying it’s worth it, but the engine appears to have been a performance rebuild.

I’ve never built a V12 but it’s probably on the pricey side.

It’s a CSi making about the same power at the wheels as the factory car did at the crank. Don’t know if it’s worth it, but it’s probably the best 8 series you could buy.

This V12 (IIRC) was essentially two BMW 6cyl engines that share a block and crank. 6cyl part numbers for ignition system, heads, cams, seals, etc. They probably had cams done and a chip for the extra power, along with headers/exhaust. $15,000 rebuild which is ridiculous.

My concern is why did this need rebuilt at 113K miles? At that mileage it would have needed a second water pump and set of plugs. I wouldn’t want this one for that price any day.

Who knows? There’s no shortage of people that pull stuff “that’s old” just to give it a going-through, or somebody who got a few bucks and wanted to build up his old BMW a little.

I’m spending about $4500 for all new engine gaskets, seals, brakes, clutch and hydraulics and whatever else needed fixing on mine this month. One of 105 6 speed ci’s and the body is perfect. Once it’s up to speed, I don’t expect it to be terrible to maintain

it was a proactive engine-out rebuild which also involved adding performance enhancing modifications.

It is NOT the most expensive:

The European market for high quality CSis has also gone up in recent years: http://suchen.mobile.de/fahrzeuge/search.html?damageUnrepaired=NO_DAMAGE_UNREPAIRED&scopeId=C&makeModelVariant1.makeId=3500&makeModelVariant1.modelId=43&isSearchRequest=true&sortOption.sortBy=searchNetGrossPrice&sortOption.sortOrder=DESCENDING
I’d say this one is a steal at $58k!

no. this CSi put out ~434hp at the crank in its last dyno a year ago. That’s ALPINA territory and almost 45bhp more than brand new stock CSis.

Says 362 RWHP which he approximates 433 at the crank, in the ad. That’s why I said it’s making at the wheels, what the stock car made at the crank.(almost)
